Manager External Relations, Louisiana

Based in Louisiana (with a preference for Baton Rouge or New Orleans), the Manager, External Relations will report to the State Director, Louisiana and serve as a key founding member of the Louisiana state team.

The Manager, External Relations will be a fierce advocate for educational equity who excels in project management, relationship building, and executing against strategic priorities. The Manager will lead day-to-day project implementation aligned with the team’s strategic priorities and maintain/cultivate key relationships with coalition members, advocates, and legislators. In this role, the Manager will have the opportunity to support the State Director as a thought partner to inform long-range vision and strategy development, implement initiatives to ensure student voice from across the Louisiana region is informing policy recommendations with a focus on educational equity for students of color and students from low-income families, and communicate Education Trust policy priorities with stakeholders.

Through our research and advocacy, Ed Trust supports efforts that expand excellence and equity in education from preschool through college; increase college access and completion, particularly for historically underserved students; engage diverse communities dedicated to education equity; and increase political and public will to act on equity issues.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage complex projects from end-to-end, communicating progress with internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with the State Director, Louisiana to implement our teacher diversity and dual enrollment initiatives
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders in Louisiana: coalition members, advocates, and legislators
  • Liaise with partners and stakeholders to advance EdTrust policy and research goals
  • Inform agenda setting with our coalition and advocacy partners
  • Contribute to grant writing and fundraising initiatives
  • Monitor social media activity
  • Represent the organization at key functions

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Belief in EdTrust’s mission and commitment to improving educational equity
  • Strong background and interest in educational equity for P-12
  • Ability to approach actions and address issues with an equity lens, specifically centering the experiences of black and brown students and students form low-income families
  • Ability to manage complex projects from end-to-end on time and on budget, communicating progress with internal and external stakeholders along the way
  • Ability to build and cultivate relationships with multiple partners, some of whom may have competing priorities
  • Evidence of civic engagement, volunteerism, and/or community involvement
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • Experience supporting fundraising efforts, including grant-writing, preferred
  • Understanding of the legislative process preferred
