Senior Analyst/Analyst P-12 Data & Policy

Based in Washington, DC and available immediately, Ed Trust is hiring for two Senior Analyst/Analyst, P-12 positions. This role will support the work of the P-12 division, specifically focusing on issues such as school funding, creating positive and equitable learning environments, accelerating students’ learning in light of the impact of the pandemic, and expanding access for Black and Latino students and students of color to rigorous, culturally sustaining coursework that prepares them for college and career.

Major Responsibilities

The Senior Analyst/Analyst, P-12 Data and Policy will be responsible for:

  • Content knowledge: Developing a depth of content knowledge in at least one of the organization’s priority areas, and for a Senior Analyst position, serve as one of the organization’s primary experts on one or more priority areas
  • Policy Analysis and Recommendations: Developing and conducting data and/or policy analyses related to trends in opportunities to learn and student outcomes, with a focus on remedying disparities, and contributing to the development of recommendations for federal and state policy
  • Sharing Findings and Recommendations: Developing materials (e.g., reports, briefs, presentations, etc.) to advance our policy agenda and representing Ed Trust and its policy agenda with various audiences, including advocates, policymakers, educators, and journalists
  • Relationships: Building and cultivating relationships within the organization (for a Senior Analyst position, with external partners) to further national efforts aimed at improving student outcomes and eliminating disparities in the opportunity to learn
  • Project management: Managing and executing small- to medium-sized projects designed to identify and elevate promising practices aimed at improving student outcomes and eliminating disparities in an opportunity to learn (a Senior Analyst role may require developing, managing, and executing more complex projects, including providing support in fundraising and grant management and providing constructive feedback and support to other analysts)
  • Disposition: Demonstrating a willingness to receive and act upon critical feedback to improve knowledge, skills, presentation skills, and relationship building; contributing to an equitable working environment

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Belief in the Education Trust’s mission and a commitment to improving educational equity
  • For Analyst-Level: At least a master’s degree and 1 year of experience in a role addressing P-12 education issues for the analyst position. For Senior Analyst-Level: At least a master’s degree and 3 – 5 years of experience conducting policy and data analysis in education, especially issues related to education equity for students from low-income backgrounds and students of color.
  • Deep understanding of elementary/secondary education policy issues, with a strong preference for expertise in school funding, college and career readiness and/or school climate including school discipline
  • Demonstrated experience using data to support policy development
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis and working with large data sets using statistical software (R, Stata, etc.) and excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of research methodology, evaluation, and statistics to be able to understand and interpret the validity and significance of findings
  • Ability to translate and communicate results of complex analyses and research findings to diverse audiences
  • Excellent analytic and communication skills (both oral and written, and in a variety of formats and contexts)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to develop analysis plans, collect and analyze data, and present findings

Compensation

The annual salary for this position starts at $63k and will be commensurate with experience. The Education Trust offers a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as a 403(b) retirement plan.
