Managing Director of Development
Judy has left The Education Trust for her next adventure. Though she is no longer at Ed Trust, we maintain this bio page as a record of the wonderful work she contributed while with us.
Judy leads our development efforts, including planning, facilitating, and managing relationships with funders and translating the work of Ed Trust to reach an increasingly wide audience. She comes to the organization with experience as a project manager, trainer, fundraiser, consultant, editor, and writer. As a founding member of the team that created AmeriCorps, Judy managed national technical assistance programs and wrote extensively about national service and youth development. She is also an accomplished editor of fiction and poetry and, with her brother, the graphic novelist Paul Karasik, co-author of the dual-format book The Ride Together: A Brother and Sister’s Memoir of Autism in the Family (Simon & Schuster, 2003). Judy has lived both in the U.S. and abroad and is a graduate of Oberlin College.
I write killer occasional verse.
Why are you passionate about working at Ed Trust?
My brother, born in 1948 with severe developmental disabilities, was never given access to public education. Other friends, thanks to other forms of prejudice, lacked access to public education past elementary school. None of that was right.
