Matt has left The Education Trust for his next adventure. Though he is no longer at Ed Trust, we maintain this bio page as a record of the wonderful work he contributed while with us.
Matt leads the development and execution of The Education Trust’s K-12 and higher education government affairs work.
Before joining the Ed Trust, Matt led the government relations work for Rebuilding Together, a national network of nonprofits that repair the homes of low-income homeowners. Matt has also worked on economic opportunity for Habitat for Humanity and Feeding America. Matt previously served as an attorney for cities in Texas and California and as Chief of Staff for a Texas State Representative. Matt also taught third- and fifth-graders in Houston, Texas, as a member of Teach For America.
A Northern Virginia native, Matt holds a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and History from Duke University, a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law, and a Masters in Public Affairs at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Matt was a Public Leadership Fellow through Leadership for Educational Equity.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Traveling in the United States—have been lucky to visit all 50 states.
Why are you passionate about working at Ed Trust?
My professional life has focused on the American dream. Education is at the heart of that dream. Working at the Ed Trust is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work to strengthen this great country.
