Liz Dunning

Chief Development Officer

Liz is responsible for maintaining and growing EdTrust’s philanthropic base of support, helping to ensure that EdTrust can be a strong advocate for equity — and advancing the role of evidence-based policy and decision-making in public education — for decades to come.

Prior to joining EdTrust, Liz served as the chief development & engagement officer at Brady: United Against Gun Violence. There, she grew a base of individual and institutional supporters for the organization’s comprehensive programmatic work, while lending her voice as a gun violence survivor.

Liz holds a master of business administration from the Yale School of Management and a bachelor’s degree from Kenyon College in political science. She happily resides in Washington, D.C. with her husband, two kids, and two dogs.

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I’m an avid runner and love to get my miles in on trails in nearby Rock Creek Park.

What drew you to education?

Education has been a lifelong passion because I deeply believe in creating a systemic approach to ensuring equity of opportunity. Intentional, deep, and equity-focused investment is an effective way to ensure that all students can achieve their potential and create a better world. That’s the world that I want to live in — and it’s an honor to help bend the arc in some small way.

Why are you passionate about working at EdTrust?

I firmly believe that justice and equity are most effectively pursued through a systemic approach. By supporting our students — and advocating for a public education system that uplifts, protects, and advances the needs of those same children — we have an opportunity to make a generational impact for our nation’s students.
