The research is clear: advanced coursework opportunities, like Advanced Placement (AP®) courses, can place students of all races and incomes on the path toward college and career success. Yet, in our state, many Black and Latino/a/x students and students from low-income backgrounds lack equitable access to these crucial opportunities.
That’s why we are excited to team up with our partners at Mass Insight to host a special briefing, “Leveling the Field: Addressing Inequities in AP® Courses in MA,” taking place on January 30 at 11:00 AM at the MA State House in Room 428. The briefing will include a presentation of the findings from a new research brief by The Education Trust, “Increasing Access to Advanced Coursework in Massachusetts,” which aimed to better understand the barriers many Black and Latino/a/x students and students from low-income backgrounds face in participating and excelling in advanced coursework. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on possible policy solutions, including an overview of current bills making their way through the legislature, such as S.838 and H.1280, An act relative to advanced placement examinations.
