ExtraOrdinary Districts: Discussion of Lane, Oklahoma

To discuss episode #2, in which we heard from educators in Lane and Cottonwood Oklahoma, are reading researcher Timothy Shanahan, University of Illinois-Chicago’s Steve Tozer, and Todd Hughes of the Choctaw Nation.

Timothy Shanahan

Timothy Shanahan is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he was Founding Director of the UIC Center for Literacy. Previously, he was director of reading for the Chicago Public Schools. He writes a popular blog on reading research, Shanahan on Literacy.

Todd Hughes

Todd Hughes is Senior Director of IT Services for the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, where he coordinates many of the education programs of the Choctaw Nation, which covers a quarter million people and 10 and a half counties of southeastern Oklahoma. Through his work he is able to link them through data and other information.

Steve Tozer

Steve Tozer is Professor Emeritus of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago and founding Director of the UIC Center for Urban Education Leadership, as well as founding Coordinator of the UIC Ed.D. Program in Urban Education Leadership. Since 2018 he has been consulting with a number of districts and universities.
