Press Release

WASHINGTON (February 18, 2016) — The Education Trust is pleased to announce that Emily Pickren has joined the Government Affairs and Communications division as its communications manager. In this position, Emily will work collaboratively with the K-12 Policy and Practice division to develop and execute communications activities to further advance Ed Trust’s equity goals.

Emily brings a decade of strategic communications experience to her new post. She comes to Ed Trust from the National League of Cities (NLC), where she managed communications for the organization’s Institute for Youth, Education, and Families. Through her work there, Emily ensured that local elected officials had the necessary resources and tools to provide young people in their communities with high-quality education opportunities, both in and outside of the classroom. Prior to her time at NLC, Emily worked as a communications consultant, helping federal agencies tell the stories behind their work and shed light on how public programs and services can make a difference in the lives of Americans from all walks of life.

Emily holds a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Michigan and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, where she studied anthropology and English. Emily remains a huge Florida Gators fan.

“We are thrilled to have Emily on our communications team. Not only is she deeply passionate about supporting underserved students and promoting equity, but she also brings a strong communications background, which will enhance our advocacy goals,” said Daria Hall, Ed Trust’s interim vice president of government affairs and communications. “Emily’s skills and knowledge will prove extremely valuable as we work to promote policies and practices that close gaps in achievement and opportunity.”
