WASHINGTON (March 19, 2020) – Today, Denise Forte, senior vice president for partnerships and engagement at The Education Trust, issued the following statement on the passage of the “Families First Coronavirus Response Act”.
“We are happy to see the Senate overwhelmingly pass — and the President ultimately sign — the House’s Families First Coronavirus Response Act (H.R.6201). This is just the beginning, however, as a sizable investment is needed again in the coming days. That investment should include emergency funding for all schools and institutions of higher education, especially for those serving students of color and students from low-income backgrounds; direct relief for student loan borrowers through suspending payments and cancelling debt; and the continued expansion of electronic meal benefits to every family and student who relies on free and reduced-price school lunch programs.”
