WASHINGTON (March 28, 2022) – Today, The Education Trust released the following statement from Denise Forte, interim CEO of The Education Trust, on the Biden-Harris administration’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget request:

1.1 million K-12 students were missing from the classroom last school year while many more students rebound from unfinished learning. Likewise, there are 1 million fewer students in college than at the start of the pandemic, resulting in long-term economic consequences. Ed Trust applauds the Biden-Harris administration’s decision to recommit to several essential education priorities in their FY2023 budget request. The proposed 20.9% increase in funding is crucial to helping all students, particularly those most impacted by the pandemic — students of color and students from low-income backgrounds — get their academic and social emotional needs met. We also call upon the administration to continue to push for what’s needed, including helping marshal existing relief funds to solve problems alongside states and districts, and policies to support students’ postsecondary completion and nutritional needs. We urge Congress to enact the Biden-Harris administration priorities.”
