As the challenges of teacher vacancies and students’ unfinished learning come into focus, it has never been more important for new teachers to receive high-quality preparation to stay and thrive in the profession. Every year, 25,000 new teachers enter Texas classrooms, too often without the coaching and support they deserve and their students need.

One strategy endorsed by state leaders is to replace the current multiple-choice Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities exam (PPR) with edTPA, a performance-based licensure assessment that better evaluates and develops the knowledge and skills needed for new teachers to be successful.
