Reid Setzer

Director of Government Affairs

Reid serves as the organization’s director of government affairs, working to leverage policy analysis as well as legislative tactics and strategies to advance EdTrust’s equity agenda, message, and policy proposals at both the federal and state levels. In this position, he works alongside members of the education, civil rights, disability, and business communities to push for policies that improve the educational outcomes of our nation’s most vulnerable youth. Prior to joining The Education Trust, Reid served as the director of public policy for Young Invincibles, where he managed all aspects of policy and legislative affairs, among other positions during his nearly six-year tenure there. Before that, Reid interned in the Education Office of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.

A native of New Jersey, Reid holds a juris doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the University of Pittsburgh.

I was on Jeopardy!

What drew you to education?
Experiencing how beneficial education was to my personal development and seeing how financial and structural barriers are blocking members of my generation from attaining a college education and burdening them with unsustainable levels of student debt.

Why are you passionate about working at Ed Trust?
Ed Trust has been working to achieve equity in educational attainment for most of my life, and I’ve been fortunate enough to partner with them on those goals throughout my career. I’m extremely excited to work alongside many of the dedicated professionals I’ve met over the past several years.
