Imagine What’s Possible When We Reimagine Education
EdTrust imagines a future where all students are giving the resources to reach their full potential, and their academic success benefits our nation.
I’m a dreamer, and I entered the world of advocacy with an unshakable vision of what was possible when all students — regardless of race, identity, or economic background — have the educational and economic resources and support systems to achieve their dreams. At EdTrust, I see excellence in the students of color and students from low-income backgrounds we tirelessly serve. And I believe more people will see it — and will do what’s required to make it more prevalent — if we all dream more, focusing on the promise of education equity, not the setbacks.
EdTrust’s new campaign, “EduReimagined,” does just that. We have put forth a roadmap to advance policies that create holistic opportunities for all students, and we are calling on our followers, partners, and others to share in our optimistic vision — to imagine, suppose, and consider the possibilities if an equitable education system is achieved.
The campaign will highlight our research and the voices of impacted communities, as well as the brilliance and potential of all students. We will reimagine a future where all students can realize their full potential, and where their academic success upholds American ideals and benefits our nation’s competitiveness around the world.
And, most importantly, our campaign will invite all Americans to dream.
Imagine what would happen if our children had expanded access to high-quality child care and pre-K programs. A stronger start would produce better outcomes throughout the rest of their education journey.
Suppose what would happen if states, districts, and schools prioritized resource equity and used evidence-based strategies — such as targeted intensive tutoring, expanded learning time, and building strong relationships — to improve outcomes for all students. We would address the unfinished learning our students experienced during the pandemic as proven interventions help students who need additional resources and support catch up to their peers.
Consider what would happen if every school had a positive school climate. Discipline would be fair and measured. Students would interact with school counselors not resource officers. Chronic absenteeism would be reduced. Learning environments would be safe and engaging. Social-emotional needs would be met. Students who feel invisible would feel seen.
As we move forward, we cannot lose hope for more diverse teachers and school leaders, more rigorous curriculum, higher quality instructional material, and more intentional pathways to college and career readiness.
This includes making FAFSA completion a high school graduation requirement and making college free for students from low-income backgrounds. This includes making the bold choice to double the Pell Grant, increase funding for HBCUs, HSIs, TCUs, and other MSIs, as well as expand direct admission programs that would provide every high school senior with an admissions offer.
When we reimagine, it opens the door to dream again. And when we dream again, we see endless possibilities. We cannot surrender to the narrative that the state of education is all doom and gloom. As fierce advocates, we know better. With the resources, the will, and the vision, we can achieve outcomes that uplift all students and set them on a path to achieving their dreams.
