All students deserve to attend school in communities where educational resources like funding, high-quality teachers, and rigorous content are distributed fairly. Equitable resource allocation, or resource equity, creates an education system that supports every student. However, far too often our school systems fail to provide all students with the resources they need to succeed. Our students deserve more, and advocates can play a key role in making resource equity a reality. But where should they start?

To help advocates push for resource equity in their communities, EdTrust developed a webinar series breaking down three key pieces of successful advocacy campaigns: data analysis, messaging, and impact measurement. Throughout the series, EdTrust and our partners provide insight into successful resource equity advocacy strategies and introduce new tools that can help advocates understand and address the state of resource equity in their communities.

Resource Equity in Action: Leveraging Data for Advocacy

EdTrust and our partners at Education Resource Strategies discuss why data analysis is so integral to advocacy campaigns, and introduce a new resource that participants can use to easily analyze data to determine the state of resource equity in their communities. Our partners at Rodel then provide an on-the-ground account of using data to inform and advance their advocacy on equitable school funding in Delaware, before sharing tips and tricks for how participants can successfully leverage data in their work.

Resource Equity in Action: Developing Your Resource Equity Message

Here, communications experts from EdTrust introduce strategies for developing messages that “land” with their intended audience and successfully make the case for resource equity. Learn how to leverage the Alliance for Resource Equity’s new Casemaking Decks to craft messages that speak to your community’s unique needs, including specific calls to action for key decisionmakers that could lead to more equitable resource allocation.

Resource Equity in Action: Measuring Impact and Maintaining Momentum

Measuring the impact of advocacy efforts is an often overlooked but important piece of any successful advocacy campaign. Impact measurement is central to how advocates develop campaign strategies, sustain momentum, course correct as necessary, and gain support from key decisionmakers. Here, Gini Pupo-Walker, Executive Director of EdTrust-Tennessee, shares her team’s strategies for measuring impact and discusses why impact measurement has been so integral to her team’s successful advocacy for resource equity in Tennessee’s education system.
