We are thrilled to announce a number of new additions to our team, as we work toward growing our advocacy efforts across the country. They are:
Tia Borders
Tia will serve as executive assistant to the president and CEO. She has eight years of experience at the U.S. Department of Education, including a role as the director of scheduling under our own president and CEO, John B. King Jr., who was then secretary of education. Tia will assist in strategic scheduling management and provide broader organizational support to our team.
Trish Callahan
Trish joins us as director of human resources. Trish, a relative newcomer to D.C., has spent most of her career leading the HR team at Sesame Workshop. While there, she spearheaded innovative programs and strategies focused on professional development and compensation to maximize productivity and foster a positive work environment, earning Sesame Workshop an “Employer of Choice” distinction.
Caro Aliangan
Caro, a seasoned accounting professional, will transition from her role as a consultant with us to a full-time member of our organization. As accounting manager, Caro will lead our accounting functions and uphold high degrees of financial accountability.
Rob Ruffins
Rob will serve as a senior associate for national and state partnerships. With experience in teaching, advocacy, and community organizing, Rob will support campaign efforts of state advocacy groups and build new relationships with national and state organizations. He will be integral to broadening our network of partnerships to raise demand for equity-focused policy changes.
Takirra Winfield Dixon
Takirra will join as our senior director of strategic communications and campaigns. She has held senior communications positions at Democrats for Education Reform, Teach For America, and the U.S. Department of Education. In this role, Takirra will continue to position our team as a leading advocacy organization in the ongoing fight for educational equity in the U.S.
Join us as we welcome them to the team!
