Statement from Augustus Mays, Vice President for Partnerships and Engagement for The Education Trust, on the Fiscal Year 2024 House Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill
WASHINGTON — “Ed Trust is pleased to see the House postpone voting on H.R. 5894, the House FY24 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act this week. This bill remains a direct threat to so many students who are already navigating the twin challenges of racial discrimination and poverty while trying to get an education. As we expressed earlier this year, the nation is still recovering from the pandemic, and our students — especially students of color and from low-income backgrounds — have already been stripped of vital resources. To make things worse at this crucial time is the height of irresponsibility and callousness. We urge the House to permanently end attempts to advance this bill and pivot to finding bipartisan compromise to fully fund the programs millions of students, educators, and families in every state rely on every day.”
