The Trump Administration Continues its Campaign to Defund Education
Statement from EdTrust on the president’s FY27 budget

WASHINGTON – “EdTrust opposes the highly damaging cuts put forth by the Trump administration in its most recent budget proposal. The administration’s budget remains unsurprisingly fixated on its unlawful efforts to eliminate the Department of Education, which Congress has repeatedly stated they have ‘no authority’ to do. The budget proposes an $8.5 billion cut to K-12 investments that target underserved student populations, including students with disabilities and immigrant students. This budget also eliminates essential programs, derided as ‘woke,’ designed to train teachers, help college students graduate, and support minority-serving institutions.

“This budget continues the Great American Heist, slashing more financial lifelines for students and families already drowning under the weight of the nation’s affordability crisis. Bipartisan majorities in Congress should reject this vision, as they did earlier this year, approve investments in educational programs, and reign in the lawless dismantling of the Department of Education.”
