Savoy is a development associate on the Development team at EdTrust. In this role, he supports the organization’s fundraising and development work.
Prior to joining EdTrust, Savoy worked across nonprofit development, program strategy, and compliance, supporting organizations focused on education, youth development, and justice.
Savoy is a Baltimore native and first-generation college graduate who earned bachelors degree in sociology with a minor in innovation & social entrepreneurship from Loyola University Maryland. His interest in education grew as he learned more about the systems that shape educational opportunity and the power education has to expose people to a world beyond what they may already know.
What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Bike around the city and play with my cat Aretha Franklin.
What drew you to education?
Education was something I always enjoyed, but the more I learned about the systems within education, the more I understood how much they shape people’s lives. What really draws me to education is the power it has to expose someone to the world. It can introduce people to possibilities they may have never imagined and give them the tools to shape the world around them. I want to be part of making that kind of opportunity more possible for young people.
Why are you passionate about working at EdTrust?
I’m passionate about EdTrust because it gives me an opportunity to learn, contribute, and support work focused on changing the systems that impact young people. I care about understanding why systems produce the outcomes they do, not just addressing the outcomes themselves. I ultimately want to build institutions that are rooted in community and create lasting change, and I see my time at EdTrust as part of continuing to learn what it takes to do that work well.
