WASHINGTON (June 24, 2014) — The Education Trust is proud to welcome Deborah Veney Robinson as its Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications. Debbie comes to Ed Trust with deep experience in communications and advocating for underserved communities.

She most recently served as Senior Communications Officer of U.S. Programs – External Communications at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. While there, she developed strategies to raise awareness around key education policy issues, including college- and career-ready standards, teacher quality, and postsecondary success. She also acted as the primary spokesperson for the foundation on education-related issues.

Prior to her work at the Gates Foundation, Debbie served as Vice President of Communications at National Alliance for Public Charter Schools. She has also led communications efforts at Communities In Schools, a national organization that works to prevent school dropouts and prepare students for their future. Debbie spent the first half of her career in corporate communications at DuPont, CIGNA, and United HealthCare, specializing in issues management and corporate communications.

Debbie is a graduate of Temple University, where she earned a master’s degree in mass communications. She received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Howard University.
