EdTrust–New York is a statewide education policy and advocacy organization focused first and foremost on doing right by New York’s children. Although many organizations speak up for the adults employed by schools and colleges, we advocate for students, especially those whose needs and potential are often overlooked.

West

EdTrust–West is committed to dismantling the racial and economic barriers embedded in the California education system. Through our research and advocacy, EdTrust-West engages diverse communities dedicated to education equity and justice and increases political and public will to build an education system where students of color and multilingual learners, especially those experiencing poverty, will thrive.

Massachusetts

The Education Trust team in Massachusetts convenes and supports the Massachusetts Education Equity Partnership (MEEP), a collective effort of more than 20 social justice, civil rights and education organizations from across the Commonwealth working together to promote educational equity for historically underserved students in our state’s schools.

Carolyn Phenicie

Assistant Communications Director, P-12

Carolyn leads media strategy, press outreach and engagement for the P-12 team. Before joining EdTrust, Carolyn was the press secretary at the Council of Chief State School Officers, where she managed media relations and publications for the Council and led media outreach for the National Teacher of the Year program. She previously worked as a journalist, covering federal K-12 policy as part of the founding team at The 74 and covering federal K-12, higher education and workforce issues for Congressional Quarterly – Roll Call.

Carolyn holds a bachelor’s degree from American University and a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I’m an avid reader and traveler. I have volunteered with Community Club, a tutoring and mentoring program for middle and high school students in Washington, D.C., since 2015.

What drew you to education?

Education touches so many other issues, from immigration to technology to racial and economic justice. Working in education allows me to see that interplay and have an impact on a variety of issues.
