Tennessee State University

Trey S. Cunningham is a first year student at Tennessee State University double majoring in Healthcare Administration and Planning & Public Health. He is a native of Brownsville, Tennessee where his passion for community and want for creating a more equitable and fairer environment for all was born. During his stent as a public-school student, he has had several opportunities to showcase his abilities as a strong and committed leader. These roles include being the Vice President of Leadership for Distributive Education Clubs of America, a four-year ranked captain and director of student communications for his JROTC Unit, and Class Treasurer.

Nevertheless, just like his scholastic involvement he is community centered and is a committed to making a better narrative for all. In his community leadership he serves as a member of TN NAACP as student member, a Haywood County NAACP Youth Council Chapter Member, and a P-12 Policy Council Member, EmpowerED Network Member, and League Leader for the Education Trust of Tennessee.

From these experiences, he has learned the value of hard work, efficiency, and communication. In the future, he hopes to continue to make the giants’ shoulders he stands on proud. Trey spends his spare time with family and friends, advocating for change, and reading. Trey is the son of Myoushi Nichelson and Travis Cunningham, and he plans to one day become a healthcare executive and politician.
