Education is not central to this raucous presidential election season, but educators noted the President’s announcement of a commission on “Patriotic Education,” along with threats to pull federal funding from schools that incorporate the 1619 Project into classroom instruction, denouncing efforts to employ more culturally diverse curriculum and teaching about the impact of slavery and systemic racism on our country.

We’ve paid attention as Secretary DeVos repealed high-profile K-12 initiatives that addressed longstanding issues of civil rights, safety, and discrimination, while also pushing back on school integration efforts.
