Executive Director of The Education Trust-New York
Ian Rosenblum is the executive director of The Education Trust–New York. He leads an ambitious equity agenda to eliminate the gaps in equity, opportunity, and achievement that hold back too many students from reaching their full potential, especially those who are low-income or students of color. Alongside other state-based advocacy organizations, Ed Trust–NY works to ensure that all students in the state of New York have the needed supports to achieve at high academic levels.
Prior to joining Ed Trust, Ian served as Deputy Secretary for Education and Economic Opportunity to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and, earlier, was Secretary of Policy and Planning to Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell.
Ian has developed, negotiated, and implemented policy and programs on key equity issues, including high academic standards, early childhood education, teacher and principal effectiveness, school turnaround, and higher education access and success. He also led major components of the enactment of Pennsylvania’s first school funding formula in 17 years, and has experience managing strategic communications in government and political campaigns.
A resident of New York City, Ian holds a master’s degree in government administration from the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in urban studies, also from the University of Pennsylvania.

Trying fun restaurants and running in Central Park — I’m a New York City cliché
What drew you to education?
My mother and grandmother were teachers, and I was fortunate to grow up attending great public schools. In college, it became clear to me that building a more just and prosperous society requires ensuring that every child has access to the kind of excellent schools and teachers that I experienced.
