UrLeaka Woodard Newsome serves as an Assistant Professor of STEM and Foundations of Education at Tennessee State University where she prepares teachers, conducts research in multicultural STEM opportunities, and serves the community in various education and STEM – related activities. In addition to previously working at the Tennessee Education Research Alliance, she values her experience as a secondary science and engineering teacher for several years.

UrLeaka completed her PhD. In Science Education at the University of Georgia where her dissertation focused on learning how potential K-12 experiences influence undergraduate African American students in their engineering identity. UrLeaka has a BS in Engineering from Mercer University and a M.S in Engineering from Louisiana Tech University respectively.
