Why does education equity matter?
Currently, too many talented and deserving students of color and students from low-income backgrounds attend schools where they are denied access to fair funding, qualified and diverse teachers and faculty, culturally rich and academically rigorous curricula, and programs that support their physical and mental health needs. Education equity is imperative for both students who are traditionally underserved and for our country as our nation becomes increasingly more diverse and multicultural. Parents, advocates, educational leaders, and policymakers must work together to ensure every student — regardless of race, ethnicity, class, ability, or identity — can access the tools and resources that research says matter to achieving a quality education. Students must be equipped to pursue the life of their choice and be successful.

Why are you passionate about being on EdTrust’s Board?
Given the ongoing challenges confronting public schools, I’m honored to serve as chair for an organization that has long been at the forefront of education equity and justice. I admire EdTrust’s steadfast dedication to ensuring every student has access to the resources necessary for learning in a safe, inclusive environment, enabling them to reach their full academic potential and thrive.
